Message to Matthews Emerging Markets Equity Fund Shareholders

August 24, 2020

We are writing to inform you that effective August 31, 2020, John Paul Lech will assume sole lead portfolio management responsibilities for the Matthews Emerging Markets Equity Fund. This change follows the decision by Co-Lead Manager Beini Zhou to depart the firm in order to pursue another opportunity.

John Paul has been a Lead Manager on the Fund since its inception in April 30, 2020 and has significant expertise in the emerging markets, including the Asia region. Prior to joining Matthews in 2018, John Paul spent nearly 10 years at Oppenheimer Funds Inc. as an Analyst and Portfolio Manager on a global emerging market equity strategy. John Paul was the first analyst hired by Oppenheimer in 2008 for the strategy and conducted primary research on companies across Asia, including China and India, and other emerging markets such as Brazil, Russia and Mexico during his tenure. He has experience analyzing and formulating investment theses in a variety of sectors. While we expect to appoint a Co-Manager on the Fund in the future, we are confident that in having John Paul continue as the sole Lead Manager position, supported by the Emerging Markets Equity team of analysts and our broader 40+ member investment team, we have the strength and depth to ensure sound and steady management for investors in the Fund.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Beini for his contributions to Matthews Asia and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Thank you for your continued confidence in our Asia investment strategies.

Yours truly,
